چکیده

A method to detect and characterize a frequency hopping (FH) signal is proposed. The context is Spectrum Surveillance. Hence, no a priori information is available: the parameters of the modulation must be automatically determined. Spread spectrum (SS) modulations are well-known for their low probability of interception (LPI). Nevertheless the aim of this paper is to show that, using a time–frequency representation and ad-hoc eigenanalysis techniques, it is possible to characterize such signal, even in realistic conditions (low SNR). Once characterized, the signal can be demodulated. Many tools are used for this characterization, in particular a precise definition of characteristic parameters and mathematical methods, such as data compression, 3D rotations and principal components analysis (PCA). Key-Words: Digital Communications, Spread Spectrum, Frequency Hopping, Spectrogram, Image Processing, Eigenanalysis Techniques, Identification.

Use of Time-frequency Analysis and Neural Networks for Mode Identification in a Software Radio Based Wireless Terminal for Ambient Intelligence Applications

In this work a preliminary study for identifying the transmission modes in a software radio (SR) based wireless terminal for ambient intelligence application is presented. In particular, the context is the identification of the presence of two communications mode as Bluetooth Personal Area Network (PAN) based on Frequency Hopping (FH) air interface, and IEEE WLAN 802.11b based on Direct Sequenc...

The Identification of Frequency Hopping Signal Using Compressive Sensing

Compressive sensing (CS) creates a new framework of signal reconstruction or approximation from a smaller set of incoherent projection compared with the traditional Nyquist-rate sampling theory. Recently, it has been shown that CS can solve some signal processing problems given incoherent measurements without ever reconstructing the signals. Moreover, the number of measurements necessary for mo...

Frequency-hopping Trellis-coded 8-dpsk for Indoor Communications

In this paper we propose a TDMA Slow Frequency Hopping-Trellis Coded 8DPSK scheme for indoor mobile radio communications. In order to assess the performance of this scheme a GWSSUS (Gaussian Wide Sense Stationary Uncorrelated Scattering) continuous channel model with an exponentiol Power Delay Profire has been adopted. This channel model allows us to analize transmission rates much lower than t...

Performance Improvement of Wireless Communications Using Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum

To improve the performance of short-range wireless communications, channel quality must be improved by avoiding interference and multi-path fading. Frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) is a transmission technique where the carrier hops from frequency to frequency. For frequency hopping a mechanism must be designed so that the data can be transmitted in a clear channel and avoid congested ch...

Chaotic frequency hopping sequences

This letter describes a novel family of frequency hopping sequences generated by chaotic systems. The sequences give a uniform spread over the entire frequency bandwidth. In addition to having good Hamming correlation properties, they possess ideal linear span. The sequences produce almost as good performance as random hopping patterns when used in frequency hopping code-division multiple-acces...
